Event Hashtag Announced for Conference

HashtagBird” #KRPS11 ” has been adopted as the official event hashtag for the Kentucky Recreation and Park Society’s 2011 Conference and Trade Show “Hometown MVPs,” which meets in Bowling Green, KY in mid-November. Twitter, Facebook, Linked In, and Foursquare users who are participating, visiting and networking at the event are encouraged to share their experience of this annual event by posting with the inclusion of #KRPS11 in their online content.

Become a Youth Sports Administrator

youth sports coachThe Kentucky Recreation and Park Society has teamed up with the National Alliance for Youth Sports to offer the coveted CYSA certification at this year’s conference!  Yes, you too can become a Certified Youth Sports Administrator!

The Academy for Youth Sports Administrators is a certification training program designed to raise the professionalism in the field of youth sports.  It is a great networking opportunity to meet with other professionals in the youth sports field, as well as discuss solutions to everyday problems that arise while working in youth sports administration.  The condensed training format of two half days is unique to this experience at Conference.  AND, if you want to save $100 off tuition, read further!

swimming coachParticipants of the Academy for Youth Sports Administrators will identify important Insurance and Risk Management information, recognize useful skills on how to manage parents, volunteers and conflicts, and outline the importance of utilizing policies and procedures as the foundation of their program.  They will discuss how to include children with disabilities in sports as the faculty recognizes the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The Academy held in conjunction with the Kentucky Recreation and Park Society will be at the Sloan Convention Center in Bowling Green, KY.  The Academy will be held on Monday, November 14 from 1:30-5pm CT and Tuesday, November 15 from 8:30am to Noon CT.

Hometown MVP Recruitment

Louisville and Paducah are now looking for some Hometown MVPs!  The Kentucky Recreation and Park Society just posted two new career opportunities on their website.

Louisville (The Parklands) is in search for a Horticultural and Natural Areas Program Chief.

Paducah Park Services wants to find a Recreation Specialist.

Apply for these positions and if successful, you will join the ranks as a “Hometown MVP,” serving a Kentucky community along with other parks and recreation professionals, a great network of individuals who will gather in Bowling Green to celebrate the importance of parks, recreation and healthy lifestyles!

Accepting Session Topics and Presenters Now

women speakerThe Kentucky Recreation and Park Society is now accepting session proposals for their 2011 Annual Educational Conference and Trade Show.  This event, is the yearly gathering of professionals, volunteers, students, elected officials and citizens who are engaged in the field of parks, recreation, aquatics, athletics and other leisure services for their hometown communities.  Sessions in the past have covered a wide range of topics including field maintenance, human resource considerations, aquatic management, golf course supervision, arts services delivery, environmental education, outdoor adventure, land/trail/green space controls, grant funding opportunities, legislative advocacy, youth sports excellence, tourism considerations and much more.

Interested individuals can apply to be a 2011 Conference Session Presenter by first filling out the [ 2011 Conference Session Proposal Form ] by August 1 for approval.  A copy of your resume or a reflection of your experience is needed with the details of the proposed session’s learning objectives and desired outcome.  Selected presenters will be congratulated on their acceptance and given specific logistics in late September.
